But to be fair… Terminator also had a whole mythology from three previous movies.

Frankly, the trailer of Avatar bores me. I’ll see it on DVD, but I’m not in a rush for that to happen.

It reminds me of a seminar I took on how to pitch a movie idea. Participants pitched their ideas and got varying degrees of “meh” as a response. Then one guy turned on a video which was just a flying sequence over different terrains – valleys, beaches, deserts, etc with three phrases: “A civilization in danger” “A boy becomes a man” “A man becomes a hero” then some enigmatic title like AVATAR or some such. The instructor went crazy for it. Thought that if he were the producer, the sale would have been made right there. Went on with the praise so long, in fact, that I never got to make my pitch: “A civilization in danger” “A girl becomes a man” “A man becomes a hero”. Similar, but…

What gripes me is that “humans (or Westerners) evil, aliens (Third-World locals) good.” Things are a lot more complicated than that, and to fall into such a simplistic storyline just seems lazy.

Incidentally, was watching a DVD with my kids the other day and it had a trailer for a 2007 movie called “Battle for Terra” which looked very much like “Avatar”. I guees all the good plots were taken.

OK, so why is there a picture of you right over a silhouette with a question mark on it? It’s like you’re playing up the “who is Sean Cregan?” thing, but shouting “It’s me!” kinda deflates the suspense.

Other than that it looks quite nice. I have IE6 around here somewhere, I’ll give it a shot and let you know how it looks.

Oh, and “wankload” is my new all-purpose unit of measure.
